Community Veterinary Services are Back!
We are happy to announce the reopening of our Community Veterinary Clinic to the public. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis for a range of services. Pets of low-income families can receive low-cost services at the clinic in Ridgway, and we will continue to offer mobile vaccine and wellness clinics in Nucla, Montrose, and other underserved communities. Spay/Neuter/TNR clinics will be scheduled in the coming months.
1001 Pet Columns: What's Ahead
With 1000 prior entries, our blog/Pet Column has covered everything from the dangers of hot cars to why your cat might chirp at you. To kick off our next 1000 columns, we’re sharing words from our Board of Directors and Executive Director about why Second Chance is such a special organization and what we plan for the future.
Our 1000th Pet Column!
Since 2006, we’ve covered everything from the horrors of puppy mills to the importance of spaying and neutering to why your dog might scoot his butt on the ground. Entries have been funny, warm, sad, and even a little bit angry. Always, we have strived to inform and enlighten pet families.
No-Kill Designation for Animal Shelters
Year after year, Second Chance has a Save Rate of 97% or better. You may ask: what does that mean, and why wasn’t it 100%?
While tales of happy adoptions are our favorite stories, sometimes adoption is not an option. Like all animal shelters and rescues, we strive to do what is best for the pets who come through our doors. Sometimes the end of the story is not wagging tails and happy purrs.
What is PACFA and Why is it Important?
We at Second Chance are pet lovers who work every day to make sure our cats and dogs are given the best. We strive to find loving homes, and we work for their well-being while they’re in our care.
Community Generosity Shared
Second Chance thrift shops are incredibly fortunate to have the support of our generous community. We receive multitudes of donated goods, and by reselling them we’re able to fund a significant portion of our work. Our shops allow us to rescue, educate, and serve pets and people in the counties we serve and beyond.
Socially Conscious Sheltering
Second Chance is a partner of an animal-welfare model in Colorado that hopes to be the future of the industry. It is called Socially Conscious Sheltering and it is very good for pets.
