The Truth About Roscoe

Roscoe is a border collie, corgi, cattle dog, aussie, pit, lab mix. We’re ninety-nine percent sure he is smarter than you. Like most incredibly smart beings, he can be a bit quirky. Think Sheldon Cooper.

He’s so smart, he could solve a Rubik’s cube in record time if he just had opposable thumbs.

He’s so smart, he could probably do your taxes. But he doesn’t believe in taxation without representation, and dogs can’t vote. Although he could probably figure out a voting machine in about 2 minutes.

He doesn’t connect with everyone. Don’t take it personally. If you pass his scrutiny, he’s loyal and likes having you around. In fact, he will want to be with you most of the time.

Like Sheldon, he likes routine and structure. He may not need a strict bathroom schedule, but he likes to know what to expect in his world.

You think it’d be fun to snuggle up next to his bed? When he is tired, he wants to be left the hell alone. Let the boy sleep.

Want to ride around in a car, side-by-side, or tractor? He’s all in. He’ll have his tongue out, his ears flapping in the wind.

Take him to the farmer’s market with many people, dogs, and noise? Not a great idea. That would overwhelm him. He’d be much happier at home.

Want to go hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing? He’ll keep going after your legs are shot.

Got a lake, pond, puddle, sprinkler, irrigation ditch, or pool? Roscoe’s favorite cologne is wet dog.

Want him to live with fuzzy meow monsters? Nope. No patience for those things.

Roscoe has strong opinions. But he can also be convinced to change his mind. Not by barking orders at him, but by showing him why.

It’s probably best if he’s the only dog. He will play with others. When he’s finished playing, he wants his space to relax. Some dogs get up in his business, and he’s not that kind of dog.

Roscoe’s person is out there. They’re probably a bit quirky, too. His ideal person should be a good leader. He wouldn’t do well with someone who is bossy and domineering. Roscoe needs a partner who will help him learn, relax, figure things out, and stay challenged.

Whoever adds Roscoe to their home will work with our dog trainers to get inside information about his quirks and tips for working with him. His adoption fee has been sponsored, and he can go on a trial adoption to start.

Roscoe’s fan club includes his former foster parents, who will be happy to share their experience with him. Also, our staff and volunteers know a lot about this boy. Just a few quotes:

“Roscoe is the best! He’s a balance of silly and serious. He’s an experienced adventure pal and also soaks up the chill moments at home. If you’re looking for a young dog who has the wisdom of an old soul, go meet Roscoe.”

“Roscoe is your action-adventure dog. But he also likes to chill. He is the perfect example of how love and patience can transform a smart pup into a perfect companion.”

“It’s a mystery to me why Roscoe has not been adopted. What a fantastic dog. He is so perfect for an active person in our community. Handsome, super smart, and ready for his new person and new adventures. I know there is someone out there who is the perfect fit for him.”

Since 1994, the Animal Resource Center and the Shops of Second Chance Humane Society have been dedicated to serving animals in Southwestern Colorado. Our adoption hours are every day from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We are located at 177 County Rd 10, Ridgway, CO. You can view our shelter pets and services online at secondchancehumane.org.
